Thursday's Song - Jason Mraz, I won't give up.

Do you a bit of a drive to work in the morning?

I have a 45 minute drive and I know to some people that would be their worse nightmare, but I love the drive.  It's usually the only time I get to be on my own and I like being on my own. Time to day dream, time to think life through, time to talk to my sister up in heaven.  I listen to Chris Evans on Radio 2 and I think he's bloody great.  I can't stand the presenters on our local radio and if I ever have to listen to them I want to hit the radio ...... not a good start to the day, eh?  I find they are usually so false and put on that stupid happy, laughy, bubbly voice on and try to make it sound like they are having so much fun with their 'pals' in the studio, but I just want to shout at them 'WHY CAN'T YOU BE NATURAL, I'M NOT HAPPY, LAUGHY, BUBBLY IN THE MORNING AND YOU SHOULDN'T BE EITHER!!!!!'  aaaarrrrrggghhhhhh

#deepbreathdeepbreath

Anyway, Chris Evans (in my humble opinion) get's it just right.  Just the right amount of happiness in the morning and what really makes the show great is that his team genuinely sound like they are having a good time and like each other and not pretending!

This song usually comes on the radio on my drive and the radio gets turned RIGHT up and I sing at the top of my voice and sway side to side as I am doing so ......... I'd love to know what people think! hahahaha

You have to really listen to the lyrics as they are beautiful.

Enjoy x

Thursday's Song - Port Isaac's Fisherman's Friends - No Hopers Jokers & Rouges

I L.O.V.E Port Isaac's Fisherman's Friends!

My husband introduced me to them in the middle of last year.  This is the husband who doesn't really care about music and me that can't live without music.

I really mean that by the way, music is really, really important to me.  I'm one of those people that if anything happens in my life I assign a song to it.  Make ups, break ups, illness, love, death, all of it.  I can't really listen to Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars as it's the song that reminds me of when my sister was in hospital and losing her battle with breast cancer.  I did want to just lay with her and forget the world.  As I said, I can't listen to it and I have to turn over the radio when it comes on.

Anyway, I digress.  The husband came across a documentary about them on Sky and loved them instantly and so did I.  Even they will admit that they are not professional singers, but to me that's what makes them more appealing.  They look like they are just having the best fun ever.  All bar one, they have been friends since the were little and they get to travel the country, having a good time, doing something they love with their best mates.  I could go for that.

We went to Exeter in March to see them live (husbands Christmas present) and they were amazing. Their voices are so powerful and I think that only when you see someone live can you get a real feel for them. A brillint night.

I have just finished their book which had me giggling away to myself, reading all about the things they have got up to and the mishaps, usually involving Billy!

I have chosen this song because for some reason the lyrics hit home to me.  Anyway, enjoy the song and enjoy the boys.

Thursday's Song - Military Wives Choir - Wherever You Are

It's been a while ...... I know, I know, I know.  What can I say!  I wish I could say that I have just been lazy and can't be bothered, but that is so far from the truth.  I have had my head stuck in my accountancy books studying away for the 9 exams I have sat in the last 10 weeks.  I KNOW, 9 exams in 10 weeks, crazy 'eh!!!  Anyway, only one more to sit next week and I am done ....... until March when it kicks off for another year of craziness.  It will be worth it in the end #keeptellingyourselfthatandyoujustmightbelieveit!!!

But hey, I'm here now and wanted to share this song with you.  If you live in England then you will know all about this group of ladies as you can't seem to get away from them .... and a good job too!  For those of you who have never heard of them, I will attempt to fill you in.

There was a three part BBC documentary about a well know Choir Master Gareth Malone, who went to an Army base in Devon and put together a choir made up of the wives of soldiers.  I think all or certainly a majority of the soldiers were away fighting in Afghanistan at the time of filming and he hoped to bring them together by music ...... and boy did he succeed!!!  It was an lovely to see women bond over the weeks and to see how singing brought them together and gave them something to focus on whilst their husbands were away was fantastic.

Now, just a word about Gareth, I think he is just amazing and has such a love and passion for what he does, that you just can't help but be drawn to him.  I think I have a little bit of a crush!!

The last episode was an absolute tear jerker and I cried nearly all the way through it.  What happened ???

  1. Gareth announced to the ladies that they would be singing at The Festival of Remembrance at the Albert Hall (a VERY big deal).
  2. They had a song composed just for them by Paul Mealor, the man who composed the lovely music for Prince Williams and Kate's wedding.  This was not just any song, but he used all of the letters the wives had sent to and received from their husbands and took bits out of them and composed the song.
  3. Their husbands returned from Afghanistan.
  4. They sang absolutely brilliantly at The Albert Hall.  The icing on the cake was a woman called Samantha who sang the most amazing solo, who at the beginning of the series was so un-confident she wouldn't even attempt to sing on her own.
As I said, I cried and cried and cried a little more!!  The best news is they are releasing it in time for Christmas and hopefully it will be number one.  The only down side to this is that whenever it comes on the radio in the car I start crying all over again!!

Anyway, enjoy the video and if you can see any of the documentary online, then please watch in and most importantly ...... DOWNLOAD THE SONG!!

Thursday's Song - Maroon 5 - Moves Like Jagger

I had to put this one up today because when I was in the kitchen on Saturday making a quilt, I found myself standing there wiggling my bum to this.  You know, proper wiggling from side to side and singing along.  I caught myself doing it and laughed .... and then promptly carried on.

Enjoy a little wiggle whilst you listen xx

Thursday's Song - Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton - Together You & I

I thought that on a Thursday I would post a link to the song that when it comes on the car radio I just HAVE to turn it up and sing along at the top of my voice.  Yes, I do get strange looks from other drivers, but hey, life is too short to worry about that.

I love Dolly Parton's new song.  It is such a romantic song and I made my hubby listen to the words as I think it is perfect for us.  I'm not a 'fan' of Dolly as such, but I just love this one.

Enjoy!!!!
